Online Learning Environment
| We offer an Online Learning Environment (OLE) for students enrolled in select subjects in our popular Preliminary Certificate in Theology (PTC) distance course, including a free demonstration unit of study titled Interpreting the Bible (details below). | Free DemoLogin |
OLE Demo by Gary Nelson, Director of External Studies:
The OLE is available for the following units (Term 4, December 1st 2009 onwards):
- Introduction to the Bible
- New Testament 1
- Old Testament 1
- Ephesians
- Promise to Fulfillment
We will progressively add new units, and announce these for each term.
How to get access
- Enrol into one of the units hosted in the OLE (listed above), and ensure you provide us with your email address in the form. Enrol early (two weeks before the start of term) so you can join the online conversation together with the whole cohort.
- At the start of term, you will receive a registration email with access details. Please allow 5 working days after the start of term before contacting the office.
- Students under 18 years of age need to obtain permission from a parent/guardian.
- If you've already enrolled but didn't provide your address, you can email us at external.studies@moore.edu.au. If the term has already started, it may take up to a week for you to receive your registration email.
Please note:
- You will still receive your printed notes.
- Access is only granted during your term of enrolment (i.e. the term in which you're doing your exam). If you enrol in a future term, you will not receive a registration email until the start of that term.
- If you've enrolled to Introduction to the Bible over two terms, you will have access to the OLE over both, as long as you notify the office of your intention to enrol over two terms.
- The OLE is unavailable from the end of each exam period to the start of the next term for maintenance and upgrades.
Features
Slideshow tour of OLE:
Studying alone is probably the toughest part of the PTC courses. Learning in community is a core value at Moore, and online technologies allow us to host a learning community where students can raise questions and share their reflections.
The OLE aims to enhance students’ learning experience and increase the course’s accessibility. Features include:
- online quizzes to help students check their understanding
- eReadings (e.g. articles from the New Bible Dictionary)
- discussion forums where students can ask questions and share thoughts
- interactive maps
- Bible passage lookups
Student Feedback
Student feedback from a successful pilot suggests it’s a great support to their learning:
“I can't tell you how very helpful I've found the OLE, learning from the insights and perspectives shared by others and feeling part of a learning community”.
“Studying Introduction to the Bible this term has been greatly enhanced by such easy access to the thoughts/opinions of other students, as well as speedy and helpful responses from staff” - John.
“If you’re a potential student wavering about whether or not to enrol in a PTC course – do it! The course content is sound and you will find all the support you need online – ready access to academic help, as well as students from around the world in the same boat as you, wrestling with the same questions and on the same journey of discovery” - Kathryn.
Free demo - Interpreting the Bible
Interpreting the Bible is a free demonstration unit available to the public from our website (http://external.moore.edu.au/onlinecourses). It’s drawn from study 2 of Introduction to the Bible, the first unit in the Certificate in Theology. You have two options:
1. View the unit as a ‘guest’ (you can only read the content and online quiz)
2. Register for a temporary visitor id (you can complete the quiz and keep your attempts)
Frequently Asked Questions
I haven't received my OLE registration email yet. When will I?
Registration emails are sent in the first week of term to all students enrolled in that term whose email address is in our database and who are enrolled in units supported by the OLE.
If you haven't provided us with your email address, please send it (together with your student number) to external.help@moore.edu.au. Sometimes our emails can end up mistaken for junk mail - please check in your email program. Check above that your unit is actually supported in the OLE.
I've enrolled in a unit, but I'm doing the exam in a term in the future. Do I have access to the OLE?
Not at this stage. Access to the OLE is only given students enrolled during the current term. At the start of the term of your enrolment (i.e. the term that you're doing your exam in), you will receive an email with access details to the OLE.
I've used the OLE before, and now I've enrolled in another unit. How can I access the OLE?
You can access the OLE by using the same MooreID and password that you used in the past, but only during your term of enrolment. If you can't remember your details, you can use the ' Forgotten your username or password?' button. Please note access will be granted only in your term of enrolment.
